Online CAP Debate Extended
The close of the public debate on the future of the CAP launched by Agriculture Commissioner Dacian Ciolas on the 12th of April last month has been extended by one week to now end on 11 June due to popular demand. It is thought that since the online debate first opened, over 3,700 responses have been received and the large number of responses still being submitted prompted the extension.
The debate, which invites all EU citizens and organizations to comment on four key questions on the CAP (discussed here) is expected to inform the Commission’s thinking ahead of its official Communication on a post 2013 CAP later this year. Despite the extension in the collection of debate responses, however, there appear to have been no changes to the Commission’s plans to discuss its results at a conference on the CAP post 2013 scheduled for the 19 and 20 July.
The conference, which is to be held in Brussels and chaired by Mr Ciolos himself will discuss issues raised by the debate which are to be summarised by an independent body. A draft programme of the CAP post 2013 conference can be found here.
